About

About the artist

My goal as an artist is to evoke an emotional, even spiritual, response as you gaze at my artwork. I strive to capture a deeper, divine beauty in common objects though simple abstraction, in the same way that Japanese printmaking can capture the elegance of nature with just a few brushstrokes. I encourage all to slowly walk around, take a look, try to figure out what you are looking at, then come back later, take a deep breath and look again.

I have been taking pictures for thirty-five years, since I bought my first camera at age fifteen. As my life’s journey unfolds, I have developed a vision of the world through my lens. As I hike along a trail, or walk down a city street, something will catch my eye — a curve, a smile, a texture. And that moment — composing and capturing something I see as beautiful and striking — is a moment of pure bliss, a welcome fog that always leaves a trace of disappointment as the moment passes.

Besides photography, I am a family doctor working at Swedish Bainbridge Island Primary Care Clinic. I live on the island with my wife and two young boys.
